Enrollment & Registration

All rising 9th-grade students must complete the following paperwork to finalize enrollment at the L&N STEM Academy.  The following completed forms are required:

  • New Student Enrollment Form
  • Student Medical Profile
  • Home Language Survey
  • Extended Campus Policy
  • Media Release Form
  • Registration Worksheet (course selection)
  • Academic Override (complete only if requesting a course level that is different from an 8th-grade teacher's recommendation)

All required documents will be reviewed by L&N staff with all students with approved transfers before the New Student Orientation (in April or May).  Current KCS 8th graders will receive their folders at their school when L&N staff visits to welcome them.  Students outside of KCS will receive their folders on a date to be announced after transfers  

The following documents will be needed to complete all student enrollment: 

  • Record of Birth – Examples include but are not limited to the following:
    • Birth Certificate issued by any government
    • Passport issued by any nation (translated)
    • Immigration documentation, or 
    • Decree of adoption or other records issued by a court
  • Immunization Records: Tennessee Certificate of Immunization (shot record signed by the child’s physician or county health department). Visit the Knox County Schools Immunization page for more details.
  • Recent Physical Examination: 30 days to obtain
  • Proof of Residence – Examples include but are not limited to the following:
    • Utility Bill (gas, water, or electric bill). If the utility bill and/or lease agreement is in the name of someone other than the parent/guardian, that individual must provide the utility bill and/or lease agreement, along with a notarized letter confirming that the parent/guardian and children reside at the address.

Course Registration Timeline for Rising 10th-12th Graders 

Last week of January: Core teachers entering recommendations (English, math, science, social studies)

Month of February: Student registration window (Counselors will visit classes in the first few weeks to review the registration process and distribute course information. Please note, student course requests can only be viewed through the student accounts; they cannot be viewed through Parent Portal.)

Month of March: Counselors review student course requests (Counselors may make adjustments based on meeting graduation requirements.)

Month of April: School administration builds Master Schedule

May-June: Counselors begin reviewing and adjusting student schedules

Late July - Student schedules released by the district via Aspen

Course Registration Timeline for Rising 9th Graders and Students New to STEM

Early April: Transfer approval letters arrive to families via USPS

Throughout April: STEM staff visit each KCS Middle School to speak to new Gryphons and distribute registration/enrollment paperwork.

Late April (Saturday AM): Mandatory New Student Orientation

May: 9th-grade student course requests are entered, and student schedules are adjusted

Mid-July: Student schedules available at New Student Social

Late July - Student schedules released to all students by the district via Aspen
