Pathway-Aligned Postsecondary Visit
10th grade postsecondary visits guarantee each student the chance to visualize themselves as a student in academic programs while building relationships with postsecondary faculty and staff through hands-on activities.

Industry Guest Speakers
Guest speakers visit sophomore, junior, and senior CTE or content classes to focus on enhancing students’ understanding of real-world applications of the subject matter, inspiring them about future career possibilities, and providing practical insights that complement their academic learning.

Job-Shadowing Experience
A hands-on experience designed to deepen students’ knowledge base so they can learn about their future educational and career paths, gain insights into the day-to-day operations of a particular job, and understand the skills and qualifications needed in the field.

Junior Research Project 

The Junior Research Project (JRP) is a mandatory research endeavor in the junior year that allows students to work toward a self-defined learning goal, create a product/project based on an identified complex problem.  They will document their learning journey and research throughout the process.  This project will lead many students through their first dive into extensive research in a topic related to their chosen School within the L&N STEM Academy.  This will be a passion project in that it will revolve around a topic of the student's choosing, with the approval of their School Lead.  Students will be exposed to what research at the collegiate level will entail and hone the skills necessary to think critically through problems, while following a design thinking process.  The work that students do through their JRP will be embedded into the curriculum across all subject areas in the junior year.  Juniors will also have a weekly advisory class in which they will be working on their research with the support of an advisor.

Capstone Experience
A culminating project that allows students to synthesize and apply their career learning from their high school years in a meaningful, comprehensive, and hands-on manner. This experience showcases students’ skills, knowledge, and growth while preparing them for postsecondary education and careers. The project challenges students to pursue a personal interest or passion, research extensively, and present their findings and work to the school community. It focuses on the students’ development of industry skills and the characteristics in the 865Ready! Portrait of a Graduate.
