Exploring Careers, Experiencing College with UTK
Beginning in the 9th grade, students at The L&N STEM Academy have numerous opportunities to visit the University of Tennessee-Knoxville campus, as well as other industry partners. At L&N, students are exposed to a rigorous curriculum that prepares them for college while simultaneously immersing them in college experiences.

At L&N , I learned to approach every project with the design process in mind — something I now use every single day as a Computer Science major at Vanderbilt. Looking back on my experience at L&N STEM Academy, I’m incredibly grateful for the emphasis on problem-solving, innovation, and collaboration; it gave me a strong foundation for college and beyond. Even though my interests have always leaned toward the social sciences, L&N provided me with valuable academic and leadership skills that continue to support my college journey. The teachers pushed me to think critically and encouraged me to pursue my passions, both inside and outside the classroom. L&N STEM Academy propelled me into my study of Environmental and Soil Science at the University of Tennessee by encouraging me to apply skills developed in the classroom to the world around me. I was able to discover my passion for science through an independent research project my senior year, which not only helped me choose my major, but also secure job and internship opportunities once I entered college.
